GatherGrounds Resorts has taken ownership of The Oaks Campground, a sprawling 155-acre outdoor retreat situated in the heart of southern Michigan. This acquisition marks an exciting new phase for the campground, with a range of enhancements and upgrades planned under the new management.
The Oaks Campground enjoys a prime location adjacent to Waterloo State Recreation Area, the largest state park in Michigan’s Lower Peninsula. This proximity offers guests direct access to vast natural landscapes and a variety of outdoor recreational activities. Additionally, the property is conveniently located just eight minutes away from the public boat ramp at Portage Lake, a well-known all-sports lake that is perfect for boating and various water activities.
Next to the campground lies the Haehnle Bird Sanctuary, which is home to an array of bird species often spotted throughout the campground, providing guests with a unique and immersive nature experience.
Under the stewardship of GatherGrounds Resorts, several enhancement projects and additions are in the works, including the revitalization of around 120 acres of forested riding and recreation trails. These trails will cater to mountain biking, golf carts, horseback riding, and hiking, offering guests numerous ways to discover the stunning terrain of the property.
Anticipated upgrades also encompass renovations to the beach area of the on-site swimming lake, which will feature the addition of lounge chairs and a sand volleyball court. A Wibit inflatable waterpark is set to be introduced to the lake, creating an engaging and family-friendly attraction for visitors of all ages.
In addition to the swimming lake, The Oaks Campground boasts a second lake dedicated solely to fishing, complete with several docks. The property also features an on-site camp store that provides firewood, ice, and scooped ice cream, along with two spacious bathhouses equipped with showers and on-site laundry facilities.
